I tested in but when I click the link to view the thread, it goes to:
showthread.php?tid=(THREAD_ID)
instead of putting the actual thread ID?

When you set
"Message
Insert the message here to be displayed to users:
There is a thread board management want you to read. You cannot view other
threads before read this thread. Please click <a
href="showthread.php?tid=(THREADID)">here</a> to view the
thread."
in configuration settings you should replace "(THREADID)" with the thread's
id that you want users to read
