Board Messages - 2.0.0 by Alan Crisp
This is one of my most favorite plugins!
Written By: nixonphreak, 31st December 2008
Doesn't seem to work with the latest version of MyBB (1.4.8). The message lacks a style and appears below the forum name.

This works fine with the latest MyBB version (1.4.8). Your style must be messed up if it doesn't.
Written By: Steven, 22nd August 2009
It also appears under the Forum Title for me. using 1.4.8 and using Leaf Green theme.

I want to create two or more messages but with different backgrounds and
colors. However, no matter how many times I tried to change, the codes in
the theme manager influence all of the messages, letting all with the same
attributes.
How can I put these differences in my board messages?
Written By: Tenebras, 18th September 2009
I add message but do not show nothing at INDEX or anywhere :S..

The german (informal) (= Deutsch Du) isn't correct. Please correct it (replace Naricht with Nachricht).

Great Plugin! Works like a charm! Thank you!
@K|nG:
Thank you K|nG, I am using a theme by you. I noticed that after switching
to a theme this plugin has to be deactivated and reactivated and you are
done.
Thanks all, Very Good Job Globally!

maybe i downloaded a wrong file or i dont know but in the latest version
the config says:
config/board-X
and cant load... it should say: config-board no?
Written By: Raliuga, 9th August 2010
Just loaded it and so far so good!
The only thing is if you want your text centered you need to add
"text-align: center;" to the Edit Stylesheet Advance Mode.
Written By: IdiotDomainer, 15th August 2010
I have this working in 1.6. It allows me to create multiple news bars.
Because it inserts it's on style sheet into every theme you can create one
bar that will have different colors in different themes. The interface says
you can use multiple colors in the same theme, but I have not tested
that.
It defaults to left aligned text, so I had to edit the style to center it.
Also to bold it. And edit the style to specify the color. This was fairly
simple. But I'm going to see if I can edit the plugin so there is less
setup next time.
I think this is a fantastic plugin. I realize my review was sort of dry,
but this plugin solves a lot of problems. I adds what I consider to be a
missing feature in MyBB, which is to show an Index or Global news bar.

Works great. I currently have it installed with MyBB 1.6. Thanks!

Hey, how come we can't change the grey background? I put a background color but it doesn't fill the entire grey box the announcement goes into...

I get the following error:
"MyBB has experienced an internal SQL error and cannot continue.

corresponds to your MySQL server version for the right syntax to use near

I also seem to have the alerts below the title, but I think it's better this way. I love this plugin a lot, thank you very much! :D
Written By: SlyCooperFan1, 14th April 2011
I've setup a 2 days old testing forum with UwAmp and MyBB.
I have the same problem as skindu26.
Written By: legreffer, 16th April 2011
I found the solution,
change the line #52 in the file board_messages.php :
from : Type=MyISAM;
to : ENGINE=MyISAM;
It works great now !
Written By: legreffer, 19th April 2011
@legreffer: Yes, it fixed the error. It should be updated.

No longer working with 1.6.5. Options in admincp are gone.
Written By: fanatics, 3rd December 2011
This plugin is not working with the latest
version of MyBB due to modified way of passing variables into functions.
Fixed version is available on Github: gist.github.com/1503751
I updated the files of the plugin, so now you can install it on 1.6.5 and
upgrade it on 1.6.4. Files: https://github.com/lukaszklis/BoardMessages

If you're using MyBB 1.6.5 or above then it would not show the link on
configurations page. To resolve this issue, open plugin file and find;
function board_messages_admin_config_menu($sub_menu)
{
global $lang;
$lang->load('board_messages');
$sub_menu[] = array('id' => 'board_messages', 'title' => $lang->board_messages, 'link' => 'index.php?module=config/board_messages');
}
function board_messages_admin_config_action_handler($actions)
{
$actions['board_messages'] = array('active' => 'board_messages', 'file' => 'board_messages');
}
and Change it into;
function board_messages_admin_config_menu($sub_menu)
{
global $lang;
$lang->load('board_messages');
$sub_menu[] = array('id' => 'board_messages', 'title' => $lang->board_messages, 'link' => 'index.php?module=config/board_messages');
return $sub_menu;
}
function board_messages_admin_config_action_handler($actions)
{
$actions['board_messages'] = array('active' => 'board_messages', 'file' => 'board_messages');
return $actions;
}

BEWARE! This plugin was responsible for breaking the ability to show attached images inline. As soon as I disabled it, images displayed properly. This was in 1.6.6 & 1.6.8

MyBB has experienced an internal SQL error and cannot continue.

Are there any other mods that replace this functionality? I love this plug-in.
Written By: OptimusGeorge, 31st January 2013
If anyone is wondering, this pplugin works in MyBB 1.6.9 with the change suggested above by Yaldaram on 26th May 2012.
Written By: rockadile, 27th February 2013
Here is something missing on the fix for the plug-in to work on 1.6.9
The fix is missing the option to enable or disable the admins permissions
to use the board messages. To fix it open the plug-in and find the
following code:
function board_messages_admin_config_permissions($admin_permissions)
{
global $lang;
$admin_permissions['board_messages'] = $lang->can_manage_board_messages;
}
And replace it with:
function board_messages_admin_config_permissions($admin_permissions)
{
global $lang;
$admin_permissions['board_messages'] = $lang->can_manage_board_messages;
return $admin_permissions;
}
With that you will have the permissions settings for board message working
again :)

Works like a charm if you follow these steps:
Find
function
board_messages_admin_config_menu($sub_menu)
{
global $lang;
$lang->load('board_messages');
$sub_menu[] = array('id' =>
'board_messages', 'title' => $lang->board_messages, 'link' =>
'index.php?module=config/board_messages');
}
function board_messages_admin_config_action_handler($actions)
{
$actions['board_messages'] = array('active'
=> 'board_messages', 'file' => 'board_messages');
}
replace it with
function
board_messages_admin_config_menu($sub_menu)
{
global $lang;
$lang->load('board_messages');
$sub_menu[] = array('id' =>
'board_messages', 'title' => $lang->board_messages, 'link' =>
'index.php?module=config/board_messages');
return $sub_menu;
}
function board_messages_admin_config_action_handler($actions)
{
$actions['board_messages'] = array('active'
=> 'board_messages', 'file' => 'board_messages');
return $actions;
}
Find again
function
board_messages_admin_config_permissions($admin_permissions)
{
global $lang;
$admin_permissions['board_messages'] =
$lang->can_manage_board_messages;
}
Replace again with
function
board_messages_admin_config_permissions($admin_permissions)
{
global $lang;
$admin_permissions['board_messages'] =
$lang->can_manage_board_messages;
return $admin_permissions;
}

With above changes still not working in 16* with this message:
SQL Error:
1064 - You have an error in your SQL syntax; check the manual that
corresponds to your MySQL server version for the right syntax to use near
'Type=MyISAM' at line 8
Fixed by removing "Type=MyISAM;" from function board_messages_install().
Working now in 1.6.8
